Designer Jeans

Designer jeans. Years ago it used to be a contradiction of terms, you either were wearing designer or you were wearing jeans. Now designer jeans are EVERYWHERE. Department stores have created new departments just to house the hundreds upon hundreds of different designer jeans that can cost from slightly over $100 to almost $1000. I even walked into a Macy's recently and right into their new "Status Denim" department. There is even a company in New York (APO Jeans) that will make a custom pair of jeans for you for $4,000.

Sadly, sometimes you are just paying for some designer to slap his/her name on a crappy pair of denim dungaries the were made for $2 in China/India/Indonesia. BUT, most true designer denim is actually worth the price. I love jeans. More specifically, I love Rock and Republic jeans, they are my absolute favorite when it comes to jeans, designer or not. As with any brand, some designer jeans fit your body type perfectly and some just don't work. Quite honestly, I was a non-believer in spending upword of $200 for a pair of jeans, until I effortlessly slipped and fell into a beautiful pair of Rock and Republics. Now I'm hooked.

Naomi Campbell Seeks Fashionable Punishment

It no big surprise that Naomi Campbell is in court again, for hitting someone... again, but the real kicker is that she has the nerve to request that her community service work be "palatable" and that "sweeping the streets, for example, would be out of the question" (as Boy George recently had to do for his community service).

Who exactly does she think she is?!

If found guilty, Naomi is facing up to seven years in prison and deportation, and she has the gall to negotiate what sort of community service she would be willing to do. It's obvious that she is not taking this seriously. Perhaps if she swept the streets she would learn how to clean up after herself and wouldn't have to continue beating up her maids...

Looking Good on Halloween!

Halloween is right around the corner, so let's talk about how to look good and remain fashionable when choosing your Halloween costume.

Location
Think about where you're going to be and what you're going to be doing on Halloween, before you pick a costume. Are you going to Las Vegas for a bit of club hopping and running around The Strip? Then for god sakes, wear comfortable shoes!! Giving up and carrying your incredibly sexy shoes by 8pm, is not incredibly sexy. So, choose your footwear wisely. Stiletto heels over 4" will be your worst enemy if your night involves lots of walking or dancing. A better choice (that is still very sexy) would be platform heels with a padded footbed or even better, platform boots with a thicker heel. If you're going to a tame Halloween house party, then by all means, wear the wildest, highest, most uncomfortable shoes you can find (sort of like these monstrosities).

Also think about where your going to be spending Halloween before picking out your costume. If your going to be somewhere crowded, you are not going to want to be wearing a long, floor sweeping costume (people stepping on it will get old very quickly) and whacking people in the face with a winged costume will also wear on your (and other peoples) nerves.

Body Type
This may seem like a no-brainer, but I have seen way too many people wearing costumes that obviously did not pick the most flattering style for their body type. Love your legs? Show them off in something short and sexy:

So, I've discovered where that cute indi girl gets all of her uniquely fabulous clothing and accessories! Check out Etsy.com. Etsy seems to be an indi take on Ebay, with similar listing styles, Etsy Stores, etc, but, Etsy only allows listing of items that are handmade or hand-altered. Their fees to sell are also much less expensive then Ebay, so if you're an independant designer looking for a new outlet to sell your goodies, be sure to hit up Etsy!

I havn't had much time to look through many of the stores, but I instantly fell in love with Danielle Maveal's jewelry. I bought the sterling silver Fake Diamond Necklace and can't wait for it to arrive! Yay for uniqueness!

Fashion Show Bans Too Skinny Models

"The world's first ban on overly thin models at a top-level fashion show in Madrid has caused outrage among modeling agencies and raised the prospect of restrictions at other catwalk pageants.

Madrid's fashion week has turned away underweight models after protests that young girls and women were trying to copy their rail-thin looks and developing eating disorders.

Organizers say they want to project an image of beauty and health, rather than a waif-like, or heroin chic look.

But Cathy Gould, of New York's Elite modeling agency, said the fashion industry was being used as a scapegoat for illnesses like anorexia and bulimia.

"I think its outrageous, I understand they want to set this tone of healthy beautiful women, but what about discrimination against the model and what about the freedom of the designer," said Gould, Elite's North America director, adding that the move could harm careers of naturally "gazelle-like" models.

Madrid's regional government, which sponsors the show and imposed restrictions, said it did not blame designers and models for anorexia. It said the fashion industry had a responsibility to portray healthy body images.

"Fashion is a mirror and many teenagers imitate what they see on the catwalk," said regional official Concha Guerra.

The mayor of Milan, Italy, Letizia Moratti told an Italian newspaper this week she would seek a similar ban for her city's show unless it could find a solution to "sick" looking models.

QUALITY, NOT SIZE

The Madrid show is using the body mass index or BMI -- based on weight and height -- to measure models. It has turned away 30 percent of women who took part in the previous event. Medics will be on hand at the September 18-22 show to check models.

Under the Madrid ruling, models must have a BMI rating of around 18. That would disqualify top Spanish model Esther Canadas, and supermodels like Kate Moss, based on unofficial records of their height and weight.

"The restrictions could be quite a shock to the fashion world at the beginning, but I'm sure it's important as far as health is concerned," said Leonor Perez Pita, director of Madrid's show, also known as the Pasarela Cibeles.

When asked if they supported controls, seven Spanish designers showing at Madrid either declined to comment or said they did not want to become involved in the controversy. Designers in Milan gave a similar response.

A spokeswoman for the Association of Fashion Designers of Spain, which represents those at Madrid fashion week, said the group supported restrictions and its concern was the quality of collections, not the size of models.

Eating disorder activists said many Spanish model agencies and designers oppose the ban and they had doubts whether the new rules would be followed.

"If they don't go along with it the next step is to seek legislation, just like with tobacco," said Carmen Gonzalez of Spain's Association in Defense of Attention for Anorexia and Bulimia, which has campaigned for restrictions since the 1990s.

Rock Bottoms was suggested as something that our readers would be interested in, and after researching them a bit, I was a bit apprehensive to recommend an intimates line made of a bamboo fabric. I always figured that bamboo was one of the last things I wanted in my underwear...Well, I was SO wrong. We just received a sample of the Rock Bottoms intimates line and we are in LOVE!

Rock Bottoms is an intimates, or lounge wear, line that takes it's inspiration from the rebellious and independent soul of rock and roll. Each piece is influenced by a classic rock and roll song, which is either directly quoted on the garment or is eluded to through images. Another thing that has Rock Bottoms standing out in the sea of intimates lines, is their interesting choice of fabric. I never thought I'd see a bamboo/cotton/spandex blend fabric, let alone love it. The fabric is incredible soft and has the perfect amount of stretch for a snug, but very comfortable fit.

The Rock Bottoms line is small and they currently carry six different styles for women and three styles for men. Men's boxers are quite affordable at $19, while the womens sets start at $56.

Time for a trend watch! Here are some of the hottest trends that are about to hit:

Grey Denim

Grey is the new blue...at least when it comes to denim. Grey is the next trend for jeans and any shade of grey will do. Another denim trend is the death of skinny jeans. Yay! I can't say that I'm sad to see skinny jeans head back to the 80's.

Kimono Sleeves

Kimono sleeve are going to be big this season. You'll see them on dresses as well as tops and they will be accompanying many different styles from dressy to casual. My favorite are kimono mini dresses and I have yet to find them on the shelves. Oh, but they will come, mark my words!

Cinch Belts

Cinch belts are probably the strongest trend right now and this one is going to be around for a while. You'll see cinch belts in every style/color/fabric imaginable, within the next few months.

Black and White

Black and white color combinations are also making a huge comeback. This trend morphed from all the sailor stripes we endured over the summer and now it is mutating into a full blown retro glamour trend. We'll be seeing a lot of black/white in evening wear and dresses.

Is Your Fendi Bag Authentic?

Don't be so sure about that.

"Italian fashion group Fendi S.R.L. sued Wal-Mart Stores in U.S. federal court on Friday, accusing the world's largest retailer of selling counterfeit handbags and passing them off as genuine at its Sam's Club warehouse stores.

Sam's Club stores in California, New York, Florida and other states sold knock off handbags, wallets and key chains that were identified as "genuine" Fendi products, according to the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

The suit by Fendi said that Wal-Mart has never purchased its products and never asked Fendi if any of the items bearing its trademark were genuine.

Fendi products are typically sold at high-end department stores like Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue in the United States and Fendi boutiques all over the world.

Wal-Mart said late on Friday that it had not seen the complaint and therefore could not comment.

In one example cited in the lawsuit, a black handbag bearing Fendi's trademark logo was offered for sale in a Sam's Club store in Miami for $508.25, 45 percent less than the retail price of $930 for a genuine Fendi bag.

Fendi, a unit of French luxury goods maker LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton said in the suit that Wal-Mart has made millions of dollars selling the counterfeit goods.

Fendi is seeking unspecified damages and asked that the handbags and other illegal Fendi merchandise be destroyed.

Wal-Mart is based in Bentonville, Ark.

Sam's Club stores, which sell everything from bulk groceries to office supplies, recently said it would ratchet up competition with rival Costco Wholesale by selling more luxury goods like fine wines and diamonds."

We did a review of two free jewelry sites a while back and just received our 1st peice of free jewelry from ILoveFreeJewelry.com. We received the unique sterling silver ring with pink CZ, pictured on the right:

I have to admit, the ring we received was 10 times better then any of us ever expected! The design was very pretty and unique, it was solid sterling silver and the CZ was bigger and sparklier then we imagined. We actually found this same ring on another website and it was selling for $49.99!

So how exactly does this work? Well, "free" isn't exactly true. You have to complete 1 offer from an affiliate of ILoveFreeJewelry.com. They have a few dozen different offers ranging from free magazine trials, skin care samples, to free Netflix trials and CD clubs. The bottom line is that we spent $5.95 and received a full sized facial mositurizer, lipstick, cleanser, make-up bag and the pretty ring mentioned above. Not quite free, but very well worth a few bucks!

Okay, it's official, we have found the ugliest designer boots ever to grace the feet of a celebrity. I actually looked up the date that Mariah Carey was spotted wearing these Louis Vuitton boots, to make sure it wasn't April Fools day.

There are just so many things wrong with these LV boots! The fit, the colors, the heel, the toe, the patent leather, AHHH! Either Louis Vuitton lost his eye sight in some freak design studio accident, or he made the mistake of letting some intern step up to the design table. Either way, I think it's safe to say that Louis Vuitton hates Mariah Carey by sending these boots exclusively to her.

Mariah has been quoted as saying that these are her "rock-'em-because-I'm-the-only-one-who's-got-'em boots". And it seems pretty obvious why she's the only one who has them....because they are just plain ugly.

How to Wear Skulls

As I'm sure you've noticed, skulls are the hottest trend in fashion at the moment. From skull scarves, shirts and pants to skull jewelry, hair accessories and handbags. Skulls are no longer reserved to bikers and punk rockers. Skulls are HAUTE and have been ever since celebs started wearing the $450 Alexander McQueen skull scarf. So, what we have for you are tips on how to wear skulls without looking like a washed up rock star or 80's throw back.

First things first, if you are an actual biker (as in you own and ride a motorcycle), the lead singer in a punk band or are under the age of 17, you can pretty much wear skulls how ever you please. Otherwise, here are some tips:

Try an embroidered tattoo-style skull. The artistic appeal of a tattoo-inspired skull, along with the detail of embroidery can add a luxe feeling to a plain pair of jeans. Wear the skull on your back pocket, the front or side of the leg. The jeans pictured here are available at Delias for $78. Pair this look with anything but black to keep this look updated and fresh. Skull embroidery also works well on hats and jackets, but not at the same time. The skull trend should be worn subtly and sparingly.

Try an allover skull print. A way to wear skulls subtly is to wear tiny skulls as an allover print on a shirt or tank top. From afar your skulls can look as innocent as a polka dot, and little do they know how tough you really are! Normally I wouldn't pair skulls with black, but the smallness of the skulls on the racer back tank pictured to the left, paired with the girly lace trim make this tank impossibly perfect! This skull tank is available at Alloy for $19. I also love the cream colored hooded top that has a small green skull print. The fashionable shape and unusual color scheme keep this look fresh and fun for spring. This top is available at Delias for $29.50.

Try a small piece of skull jewelry. Another fun way to introduce the skull trend into your current wardrobe is to pick up a piece of skull jewelry. Choose something small and feminine (well, as feminine a skull you can find) like the small skull and crossbone studs or skull and crossbone pendant with dangling heart, pictured here. Wear the skull necklace with a flirty spring dress and heels to keep the look fun and feminine. The subtle skull studs can be worn with anything from jeans to a bikini, so be creative. Okay ladies, this is it, I'm going to let you in on something life-altering. I have found the worlds perfect shoe!!! Before I go any further, let's define the perfect shoe: Stylish, sexy, comfortable and affordable. I know, I know, sexy and comfortable are like oil and water, a nearly impossible mix. But it's true, I've found the holy grail of shoes. Introducing M.O.D.:

I knew nothing about the brand when I purchased the white studded platform heels shown below. I went online to look for another pair of M.O.D. heels in black and found out that M.O.D. is actually well known for their comfort.

We recently received an email recommending a new jewelry site run by "two crazy Swedish friends". Well, we like jewelry and we like crazy people, so we figured that we would check out ScandinavianStudio.com.

Since the body piercing craze has mellowed out a bit, it's not as common to see someone walking down the street with 15 piercings in their face. Tis The Season for Cute Sweaters!

We stumbled into SveetCouture.com after receiving a fashion tip and, boy are we glad we did! Sveet Couture's products range from designer vintage frocks to handcrafted belt buckles and bag.
